Stats on Iraq rebuilding
: " former US Defence Secretary James Schlesinger says it will cost the US $27 billion annually for several years, and a further $US17 billion a year to maintain 75,000 troops in the country to keep order. .. The United Nations Development Program figures it will cost a minimum of $US10 billion. Yale University economist William Nordhaus says somewhere between $US20 billion and $US100 billion is required to begin rebuilding the country...
[Iraq's] debt: $US126 billion of official and commercial borrowings, $US320 billion of war-reparation claims following the 1991 invasion of Kuwait, and as much as $US100 billion in claims dating from the Iran-Iraq war of 1980 to 1988." 10:40:50 PM
Saddam worked with bin Laden
: "Papers found yesterday in the bombed headquarters of the Mukhabarat, Iraq's intelligence service, reveal that an al-Qa'eda envoy was invited clandestinely to Baghdad in March 1998. The documents show that the purpose of the meeting was to establish a relationship between Baghdad and al-Qa'eda based on their mutual hatred of America and Saudi Arabia. The meeting apparently went so well that it was extended by a week and ended with arrangements being discussed for bin Laden to visit Baghdad." 5:41:00 PM
